Written by Dr Elif Benar, dermatologist at Dr Elif Clinic, 54 Harley Street, London. Our doctors use and recommend these products in clinic every day.
Obagi Nu-Derm is best known as a skin transformation system. The Fx version is the non-prescription range, designed to improve the look of uneven tone, dark spots and sun damage without a prescription.
The products in the Fx range
- Cleanser and toner: Foaming Gel or Gentle Cleanser, then Toner.
- Clear Fx: a brightening cream with arbutin to help even out the look of dark spots.
- Exfoderm (normal to dry skin) or Exfoderm Forte (normal to oily skin): gentle exfoliation to smooth texture.
- Blend Fx: an evening brightening and blending cream.
- Sunscreen: essential. Pigmentation returns quickly without daily SPF.
The full set is available as the Nu-Derm Fx System for normal to oily skin and the Nu-Derm Fx System for normal to dry skin.
What to expect
Pigmentation improves slowly. Most people see a change after 8–12 weeks of consistent use with daily SPF. Some redness, dryness or flaking can happen in the first weeks as the skin adjusts.
When to see a doctor
Melasma and stubborn pigmentation often need a tailored plan. Stronger prescription treatments exist, but they are only available after a consultation with a doctor who has assessed your skin. A new or changing dark spot should always be checked by a doctor.
